COLETTE CLARKE is a member of both the Association of Iconographers of Ireland and the British Association of Iconographers. She is a practising Roman Catholic and while attending All Hallows College in 1999, studying part-time for a degree in Theology, she was introduced to icons in liturgy by Dr. Gesa E. Thiessen, lecturer and writer (Theology and Modern Art). The course she taught was Orthodox Spirituality. Dr. Thiessen recommended some books on icons and so, Colette began to use icons for private prayer.
Colette had studied Fine Art (part-time) (1995-2000) in the National College of Art & Design, Dublin and became interested in learning how to write icons. She attended courses in Turvey Abbey, England, under the tutelage of Sr. Esther, a Benedictine Sister and Sancti Angeli Skete, Scotland with Sr. Petra Clare, also a Benedictine Sister.
Most of her training so far (six years) has been with the Greek Orthodox Iconographer - Eva Vlavianos, based in Paris but teaching both in Ireland and in France. She completed Eva’s basic course in iconography in 2003 and last year began her advanced course in writing icons. Colette is also doing a four year Online Course with Sr. Petra Clare, studying both the history of icons and icon writing.
