RICHARD SINCLAIR - Born In Derry City in 1947. Attended the College of Art in Belfast in the late 60’s early 70’s, graduated in Fine Art. Worked as an art teacher and also in book selling, in Ireland and England for a number of years. Worked as a designer, exhibition - officer for the Western Education and Library Board based in the Central Library in Derry, for around 25 years.
Attended Icon course in Dublin with Ramos- Poquí in 1992 where I met for the first time Sr. Aloysius McVeigh, who also lives in Derry and who has proved to be a great friend and mentor to me. Subsequently, attended courses with Solrunn Ness and Eva Vlavianos. Eva's course was a revelation to me and helped form in me a desire to take the study of icon painting very seriously and also provided me with the means, along with the Association, of doing so.
Retired from the Library Board in 2005/6 and opened a studio in the Craft Village in Derry in order to study icon painting full time and to give classes to small groups, following the method of icon painting as taught by Eva. I also work as a tutor for the Association of Iconographers, to whom I owe a great deal. Have exhibited in group exhibitions as well as in my studio. Have work in private collections in Ireland, UK, Crete and America.
